    George Halkos is Professor in Economics of Natural Resources. He is an economist who has graduated from the Department of Economics at the University of Piraeus (Greece). He holds a Master of Sciences (M.Sc) in Project Analysis, Finance and Investment and a Doctorate of Philosophy (D.Phil) in Cost-Benefit Analysis with the use of Mathematical Models and Game Theory and with application to Environmental Economics from the Economics Department of the University of York (England).

    In the first terms of the academic years 2010-11 and 2011-12 he taught the course Environmental Economics and Valuation of Environmental Goods in the Master course of the International and European Economic Studies in the Athens University of Economics and Business.  In the second term of the academic year 2012-13 he taught the course Economic Analysis and Policies for the Environment, Natural Resources and Energy in the Master course of the International and European Economic Studies in the Athens University of Economics and Business.  In the second term of the academic years 2015-16 and 2016-17 he taught the course Environment, Natural Resources and Energy and in the second term of the academic year 2016-17 he taught the course Investment Appraisal and Cost Benefit Analysis in the Master course of the International and European Economic Studies in the Athens University of Economics and Business. In the first term of the academic year 2017-18 he taught the course Policy Analysis and Evaluation  in the Interdisciplinary Postgraduate Program of Public Policy and Public Management organized by the Departments of Economics, International and European Economic Studies and Management Science and Technology of Athens University of Economics and Business (ASOEE). In the academic years 2019-20, 2020-21 and 2021-22 he taught and is teaching Environmental Planning and Sustainable Development in the MBA part time course and he taught and is teaching Modelling Environment, Energy and Economy in the Master degree in Economics and Law in Energy Markets in the Athens University of Economics and Business. In the academic year 2021-22, he taught as a visiting professor the course Methodology of Social and Environmental Research in the interdepartmental postgraduate program "Education for Sustainability and the Environment" of the University of Thessaly.

    He has worked as team leader and research fellow in various research and academic institutions as the University of Piraeus, the Athens University of Economics (former ASOEE), the University of the Aegean, the Stockholm Environment Institute, the Panteion University, the ATEI, etc. for research projects financed by the European Union (PHARE programs), the Hellenic Republic Ministry of Development, the National Statistical Service of Greece, the EUROSTAT, the Ministry of Employment, etc.

    He is the Director of the Operations Research Laboratory.

    He was Associate Editor in the journal Environment and Development Economics (Cambridge University Press) for six years.

    He was the Director of Postgraduate Studies in the Department of Economics at the University of Thessaly entitled "Applied Economics" for 4 academic years (2007-2011). In this postgraduate program he taught the courses Applied Microeconomic Analysis, Applied Econometrics, Time Series Analysis, Economics of the Environment and Natural Resources.

    He was the Deputy Head of the Department of Economics  for 4 academic years (2009-2013).

    His research interests are in the fields of Applied Statistics and Econometrics, Simulations of Economic Modelling, Natural Resource and Environmental Economics, Applied Micro-economic with emphasis in Welfare Economics, Air Pollution, Game Theory, Mathematical Models (Non-Linear Programming).
